24 in 48: January 2018

Ladies and gentlemen, IT! IS! TIME! Time to read. Ignore responsibility. Read. Neglect personal hygiene. Read. Go off the grid toward the real world, but extremely on the grid online. TIME. TO. REAAAAAAD!!!!

This is my fourth round participating in the 24 in 48 Readathon, in which I attempt to cram 24 hours of reading into a 48 hour span. Not quite as crazy as a straight 24 hour ‘thon  like Dewey’s, but still reasonably outside the realm of sanity. Follow along and check back in through Sunday to see the inverse relationship between “number of hours read” and “percentage of sanity remaining.” Continue reading “24 in 48: January 2018”

24 in 48 July 2017 Recap

Bum. Bum. Bum. Another book bites the dust! My third 24 in 48 Readathon has come and gone, taking with it the excitement of connecting with other readers, the stress of a heavily scratched audiobook CD, and the half-crazed mania that rears its head whenever my sense of perfectionism meets a deadline and a lack of sleep. Every time has proven to be a little bit different, and while I wouldn’t say reading for this length of time necessarily gets easier, I learn a little more each time about how to better prepare for it.

24 in 48 July 2017

Has it already been six months? Seems like just yesterday I was barricading myself inside for the January 24 in 48 readathon, and here we are again, preparing for another glorious weekend of reading reading reading and you guessed it more reading. I’m going for a 6:30pm Friday night to 6:30pm Sunday night time frame, and am hoping to cram more hours in on the front end than my previous two readathons, because – full disclosure – there’s a church pool party on Sunday night, and since today’s high was 106 degrees there’s no way I’m missing that bizniz. I’ve got lots of books and lots of Diet Pepsi, so here we goooooo!!!!!

24 in 48 Jan. 2017 Recap

Another weekend has come and gone, and with it, massive amounts of reading. Thanks to 24 in 48, I had a valid excuse to sit and read and eat pretzels and read and crochet and read. But mostly read. If you’re interested in the high stakes play-by-play, scoot on over to this post. Otherwise, for the purposes of being entered in a prize drawing (who doesn’t love prizes?), here are my final thoughts, which are way more coherent today than they would’ve been yesterday. 24 in 48 Jan. 2017

Ooooooooohhhh it’s time it’s time it’s time! I participated in the July 2016 24 in 48 readathon on a whim, having never done anything like it before. Long story short, it was super fabulous, so when I got the email about signups for the January edition, it basically went: *click click* can we start right now?

10:00 pm CST
IT IS TIME. The organizer’s clock kicks off at midnight EST (11 pm for me) but I’ve chosen to knock my start time up an hour so I’ll end before I need to get some form of sleep to be a functioning human at work on Monday. So with that…

24 in 48 VICTORY

Competitiveness runs in my veins like blood runs in most people’s. So when I signed on to do the 24 in 48 Readathon, I knew it could quickly turn obsessive. And well, yes, it did, BUT I have successfully arrived on the other side with the full 24 hours completed as well as a marriage that is still intact! To my very understanding Husband Unit, thank you for letting me have my weekend of insanity. To everyone who may have seen me walking around glued to my phone or with one earbud in, this is what I was doing. If you’re interested in a play-by-play of my crazed mindset this weekend, I kept an ongoing post here; this is more of a general recap.

24 in 48: June 2016

This weekend I decided to embark upon a special kind of insanity and jump into the 24 in 48 readathon! If you’re unfamiliar with it, the idea is to read for 24 hours over the course of 48 hours. Things are moving along over at 24in48.com, Twitter, Instagram, and Litsy. I’ve got a few updates from my first few hours, and will continue to add throughout the weekend! If you’re on Litsy, I’m there under BookFreakOut! Continue reading “24 in 48: June 2016”
